Moreno Valley College
NBECHS has partnered with MVC since fall of 2005. We are entering our 20th year and going strong! We are pleased to offer various community college classes to our students to help them prepare for their future by being college and career ready. Our early college program helps students to achieve more by focusing on a plan that prepares students based on their individual goals.
Every student who attends NBECHS starts by taking GUI 45- Introduction to College, before taking any other MVC classes.
Potential College Course Outline:
FRESHMEN: Students take 1 MVC class freshmen year; GUI 45, Introduction to College. Summer after 9th grade, 1 optional MVC class.
SOPHOMORES: Students can take 1 MVC class during Fall of 10th grade and 1 - 2 MVC classes during Spring of 10th grade (not to exceed 11 units). Summer after 10th, 1 - 2 optional MVC classes (not to exceed 8 units).
JUNIORS: Students can take 1 - 3 MVC classes Fall/Spring of 11th grade (not to exceed 11 units). Summer after 11th, 1 - 2 optional MVC classes (not to exceed 8 units).
SENIORS: Students can take 1 - 3 MVC classes Fall/Spring of 12th grade (not to exceed 11 units). Seniors can take 1 Winter (online) class, if available.
**Students can take up to 11 units during the fall/spring terms and up to 7 units during the summer**
Steps for NBECHS students to enroll at MVC
1. Students must meet GPA guidelines to be eligible for MVC classes. MVC's policy is that students must have a minimum 2.5 term (fall/spring) GPA to qualify. Students must pass GUI 45 to take additional MVC classes.
2. Students who attend NBECHS will complete an initial MVC application online through CCCApply with a designated NBECHS staff member. This is to ensure the application is submitted correctly.
Anytime a student does not enroll in a fall/spring MVC class, a Renewal MVC application must be submitted with a designated NBECHS staff member.
3. Students must fill out a Concurrent Enrollment/Parent Approval form during their first year at NBECHS (one time only). Students must also submit a Permission to Treat a Minor (Health) form along with providing a parent/guardian photo ID when attending classes in person at MVC (one time only).
4. Students must submit a Pre-Registration google form each term they are interested in taking a MVC class. Students are able to choose from a wide variety of MVC classes, some limitations apply.
5. Students then register for specific classes on "My Portal and EduNav", MVC's registration platform on Registration Day. If applicable, winter term is reserved for seniors only.
6. Students pay minimal fees directly to MVC on "MyPortal;" a Health Fee and a Transportation Fee. The Student Services Fee is waived for our students.
7. Once students are enrolled in MVC classes they are strongly encouraged to complete their class. MVC offers FREE Tutoring Services to enrolled students online or in person. Students may only drop a college class, once the term has begun, based on extenuating circumstance(s). If a class needs to be dropped based on an extenuating circumstance, a Request to Drop a College Class form is required, along with a meeting with counselor, parent, and/or administrator. If a student drops a college class on their own or gets dropped by MVC without following the drop guidelines they will not be able to take additional MVC classes the following main term (fall/spring).
College grades are added to high school transcripts and used to calculate semester GPAs. Students can view grades in Canvas during the course. Once grades are final, grades earned can be viewed on "MyPortal".
Log into these MVC Generated Accounts at mvc.edu:
- WebAdvisor; (User ID is a 7 digit #) Webadvisor has limited functionality as of October 2024.
- MVC Student Email; (ends with @student.rccd.edu)
- Canvas; (use MVC Student Email and password)
- MyPortal and EduNav: (use MVC Student Email and password)
Transportation:
NBECHS offers transportation to and from MVC during the week, Monday - Thursday, for in person classes. Students who elect to self-transport can apply for a free MVC Student Parking Pass along with a copy of the student's valid driver's license. Once the Bus Schedule is posted, if a student will be driving themselves, they need to complete a Transportation Agreement form (available in the office). Along with supporting documents, the Transportation Agreement form needs to be given to the Registrar once completed.
MVC Materials:
Students borrow required college textbooks for free when enrolled in MVC classes from NBECHS and textbooks must be returned at the end of each term. If students need an Access Code, one will be provided for them free of charge via email directly from MVC. Please follow directions from our Media Tech to obtain MVC materials.
MVC Fees:
Students pay a Health Fee and a Transportation Fee (Student Services Fee is waived) directly to MVC each term they are enrolled. This is approximately $29 total (whether taking 1 - 3 classes) for fall/spring and approximately $22 total (whether taking 1 - 2 classes) for winter/summer. Fees need to be up to date or students will not be able to register for additional MVC classes.
MVC reserves the right to change their fees at their discretion.
Completing Cal-GETC (California General Education Transfer Curriculum):
Cal-GETC is a pattern of courses that community college students can use to satisfy lower-division general education/breadth requirements for CSU/UC campuses. Completing Cal-GETC while enrolled at NBECHS is NOT a guarantee. Cal-GETC begins at MVC during the Fall 2025 semester.
Completing an Associate's Degree:
The Associate's Degree requires a minimum of 60 specific units of college work, of which 18 semester units must be in one of the nine areas of emphasis. Students can participate in MVC's Commencement as long as they have submitted a Graduation Application by the indicated deadline via WebAdvisor, completed a minimum of 51 of the 60 specific units required and been approved by MVC. Completing a degree while enrolled at NBECHS is NOT a guarantee.
Completing Golden 4:
The highest-priority classes (known as the Golden 4) are three courses in the English language areas of oral communications (COMM C1000), English composition (ENGL C1000) and critical thinking (ENGL 1B), along with a general education course in mathematics (MAT). Completing the Golden 4 while enrolled at NBECHS is NOT a guarantee.
Counselors will guide students to set up personal goals regarding their college journey and revise those goals, as needed.
