Matt Cox, creator of Puffs, has written a new play that also happens to involve witches. Witches!? In Salem?! is a darkly comedic, yet (mostly) historically accurate take on the Salem Witch Trials and all the (mostly) historically accurate horrors that may occur when populism runs rampant, injustice is a day-to-day occurrence, and a rigid religious minority sets the laws of the land. You know, old-timey problems. A companion, or an alternative, to a certain other Salem play you probably read in high school.
In the spirit of edutainment, Jenny Anne Bishop, an eighth grader who got “way too into her class lesson plan on The Crucible” guides us through all the fun facts from the years leading up to, during, and after the Trials. Meet culprits, victims, and bystanders alike as a village in turmoil comes to life.
Witches in Salem Show
February 27 @ 6 PM, February 28 @ 7 PM, and March 1 @ 3 PM & 7 PM we will be performing Witches!? In Salem?! It will be in 601, so I only have 50 seats a night. Please reserve seats by responding to this email. The show is a very silly take on the Salem Witch Trials - and while reading The Crucible is not a requirement, the English Department may find this one particularly funny.
The kids already did a 30-minute cut at a festival last month, and Marck Ocegueda won best actor for his role in the show.
Hope to see you all there!
