Moreno Valley College

NBECHS has partnered with MVC since fall of 2005. We are entering our 18th year and going strong! We are pleased to offer various community college classes to our students to help them prepare for their future by being college and career ready. Our early college program helps students to achieve more by focusing on a plan that prepares students based on their individual goals.

Every student who attends NBECHS starts by taking GUI 45, Introduction to College, before taking any other MVC classes.

Potential College Course Outline:
FRESHMEN: Students take 1 MVC class freshmen year. Summer after 9th grade, 1 optional MVC class.

SOPHOMORES: Students can take 1 MVC class during Fall of 10th grade and 1 - 2 MVC classes during Spring of 10th grade (not to exceed 11 units). Summer after 10th, 1 - 2 optional MVC classes (not to exceed 7 units).

JUNIORS: Students can take 1 - 3 MVC classes Fall/Spring of 11th grade (not to exceed 11 units). Summer after 11th, 1 - 2 optional MVC classes (not to exceed 7 units).

SENIORS: Students can take 1 - 3 MVC classes Fall/Spring of 12th grade (not to exceed 11 units). Seniors can take 1 Winter (online) class, if available.

**Students can take up to 11 units during the fall/spring terms and up to 7 units during the summer**

Steps for NBECHS students to enroll at MVC
1. Students must meet GPA guidelines to become eligible for MVC classes.  MVC's policy is that students must have a minimum 2.5 term (fall/spring) GPA to qualify.  Students also cannot have any F's (high school or college) and must pass GUI 45 to take additional MVC classes.

2. Students who attend NBECHS will complete an initial MVC online application through OpenCCC online with a designated NBECHS staff member. This is to ensure the application is submitted correctly.
Anytime a student does not enroll in a fall/spring MVC class, a Renewal MVC application must be submitted with a designated NBECHS staff member.

3. Students must fill out a Concurrent Enrollment/Parent Approval form each year of attendance. Students must also submit a yearly Permission to Treat a Minor form along with providing a parent/guardian photo ID when attending classes in person at MVC.

4. Students must submit a Pre-Registration google form each term they are interested in taking a MVC class.  Students are able to choose from a wide variety of MVC classes, some limitations apply.

5. Students then register for specific classes on EduNav, MVC's registration platform.  If applicable, winter term is reserved for seniors only.

6. Students pay minimal fees directly to MVC on WebAdvisor; a Health Fee, a Transportation Fee and a Student Services Fee. Students can submit a "Student Services Fee Waiver" each term they are requesting a fee reduction by MVC's deadline (check website).

7. Once students are enrolled in MVC classes they are strongly encouraged to complete their class.  MVC offers Tutoring Services to enrolled students. Students may only drop a college class, once the term has begun, based on extenuating circumstance(s).  Request to Drop a College Class form required, along with a meeting with counselor, parent, and/or administrator.

College grades are added to high school transcripts and used to calculate semester GPAs. Students can view grades in Canvas during the course.  Once grades are final, grades earned can be viewed on WebAdvisor.

MVC Generated Accounts:

Transportation:
NBECHS offers transportation to and from MVC during the week, Monday - Thursday, for in person classes.  Students who elect to self-transport can apply for a free MVC Virtual Student Parking Pass on WebAdvisor. Once the Bus Schedule is posted, if a student will be driving themselves, they need to complete a Transportation Agreement form (available in the office).  Along with supporting documents, the Transportation Agreement form needs to be given to the Registrar once completed.

MVC requires students/visitors to wear a mask while indoors during the 2022/2023 school year. Updated policy TBD.

MVC Materials:
Students borrow college textbooks for free when enrolled in MVC classes from NBECHS and textbooks must be returned at the end of each term. If students need an Access Code, one will be provided for them free of charge.  Please follow directions from our Media Tech to obtain MVC materials.

MVC Fees:
Students pay a Health Fee, a Transportation Fee and a Student Services Fee directly to MVC each term they are enrolled. This is approximately $55 total (whether taking 1 - 3 classes) for fall/spring and approximately $32 total (whether taking 1 - 2 classes) for winter/summer.  Students can reduce that fee by $30 (fall and spring) and by $10 (winter and summer) by submitting a Student Services Fee Waiver each term they are enrolled.  A fee reduction would lower the fee to approximately $25 (total) for fall/spring and approximately $22 (total) for winter/summer.  The Student Services Fee Waiver form is electronic and goes directly to MVC. (click here)
MVC reserves the right to change their fees at their discretion.

Completing IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum):
IGETC is a pattern of courses that community college students can use to satisfy lower-division general education/breadth requirements for CSU/UC campuses. However, California community colleges may grant partial certification of IGETC to students who are missing no more than two requirements. Completing IGETC while enrolled at NBECHS is NOT a guarantee.

Completing an Associate's Degree:
The Associate's Degree requires a minimum of 60 specific units of college work, of which 18 semester units must be in one of the nine areas of emphasis. Students can participate in MVC's Commencement as long as they have submitted a Graduation Application by the indicated deadline via WebAdvisor, completed a minimum of 51 of the 60 specific units required and been approved by MVC. Completing a degree while enrolled at NBECHS is NOT a guarantee.

Completing Golden 4:
The highest-priority classes (known as the Golden 4) are three courses in the English language areas of oral communications (COM), English composition (ENG 1A) and critical thinking (ENG 1B), along with a general education course in mathematics (MAT). Completing the Golden 4 while enrolled at NBECHS is NOT a guarantee.

Counselors will guide students to set up personal goals regarding their college journey and revise those goals, as needed.
