The Medieval Times was founded in 2004 when Sybel Alger was hired to start the newspaper, advise the yearbook, and teach English. As a second-career teacher, she brought 23 years of experience in the newspaper industry, including 18 years as an editor and reporter at The Press-Enterprise.

The newspaper's name and the yearbook title, A Knight's Tale, were chosen through a student contest. The Advanced Journalism class produces both publications with student editors controlling the content. The Medieval Times is published eight times a year; A Knight's Tale is distributed in May.
